POSITION: Head of Marketing

LOCATION: NYC Hybrid

Full-Time Executive Hire (open to a fractional-to-full-time path for the right leader)

Thousand Fell is building the future of circular fashion.

Our mission is to end textile waste and prove that circular products can look better, feel better, and perform better than traditional ones. We launched the world’s first fully recyclable sneaker and built the system behind it to take every pair back, break it down, and turn it into something new. No landfill. No waste. Just better design.

The Role

This is a rare opportunity to be the founding marketing leader at a brand with a genuine reason to exist.

As Head of Marketing, you'll build Thousand Fell's marketing and brand from the ground up — owning strategy, brand voice, content, community, partnerships, and growth. You'll work directly with the founders, with a real seat at the table on brand and marketing strategy and execution, product/merchandising direction, and resource planning. This is a true executive seat — the most senior marketing role in the company — with a clear path to CMO as the business scales.

The brands that define a generation aren't built by marketers who execute briefs. They're built by leaders who understand culture deeply enough to create it. You know not just what's trending, but why. You translate brand values into campaigns that actually connect. You build communities with real belonging, not just audiences with follower counts. And you're as comfortable in a founder strategy session as you are on a content shoot.

This is the kind of role that rarely comes along. A brand with a genuine story, a product that's better by design, and a mission — ending textile waste — that the world is finally ready to hear. You'll have the mandate, the budget, and the trust to build something that matters.

Candidate Archetype

We are looking for someone who sits at the intersection of:

Brand Builder Can create excitement, relevance, and cultural momentum around a brand. Has shaped a brand's voice from the ground up — not inherited one.

Community Builder Understands how to create belonging, participation, advocacy, and word-of-mouth. Builds communities, not just audiences.

Growth Operator Understands marketing economics and can connect marketing activity to business outcomes. Owns P&L, not just creative output.

Ecosystem Connector Naturally brings people together. Has existing relationships with creators, tastemakers, brand founders, and press — and knows how to activate them.

People Leader Knows when to hire, who to hire, and how to build a lean, high-performing team. Can manage up to founders and down to a small team without losing either relationship.

What You’ll Do

Brand Strategy & Direction

  • Define and steward Thousand Fell's brand positioning, voice, and visual identity
  • Translate mission into compelling narratives that resonate across audiences
  • Serve as brand voice in product, partnership, and go-to-market decisions alongside founders

Marketing Strategy & Planning

  • Own marketing strategy, calendar, and campaign launches
  • Manage the brand marketing budget — allocating resources, driving outcomes, and tracking ROI
  • Develop integrated GTM plans that drive awareness, acquisition, and retention across channels

Content & Channels

  • Own all brand marketing channels and maintain a consistent, elevated brand aesthetic
  • Lead social content strategy across Instagram, TikTok, and emerging platforms
  • Drive lifecycle strategy, segmentation, and performance optimization on email, SMS and loyalty

Partnerships & Community

  • Create strategic influencer, brand, and press partnerships that expand reach and deepen credibility
  • Lead co-marketing and retail partnerships that establishes Thousand Fell as an industry leader
  • Grow the Thousand Fell community — online and IRL through activations, events, and experiences

Performance & Insight

  • Own reporting across channels leveraging platform and 3rd party tools
  • Build a culture of experimentation — testing new formats, channels, and tactics with speed and rigor
  • Evaluate and advance projects through ROI and incrementality analyses

Team Building

  • Player-coach by design: set the standard hands-on while architecting the team you'll need
  • Hire deliberately as revenue and budget scale — prioritizing for culture, ownership, and craft
  • Manage existing marketing team members and agency, freelancer, or vendor relationships
What We're Looking For
  • 12+ years in brand marketing, with 5+ years leading a marketing function as a senior marketer — real ownership of strategy, budget, and team, not just a title
  • Proven brand-building experience: has operated at scaled, later-stage consumer brands and knows what excellent looks like — and has built inside an earlier-stage business (roughly $1M–$25M in revenue) without massive budgets or established playbooks. Has built rather than inherited.
  • Direct P&L ownership — must have managed a meaningful marketing budget and been accountable for ROI, with fluency in CAC, ROAS, MER, LTV, conversion, retention, incrementality, and marketing efficiency. We are looking for someone who understands how marketing moves a P&L.
  • Multi-channel ownership across social, email, SMS, influencer, affiliate, partnerships, campaigns, and content — not as a specialist in each, but as the accountable owner across all of them
  • Proven, specific growth: can point to examples of growing a channel from scratch, increasing revenue through a campaign or partnership, building a community with measurable engagement, and creating business impact — not just brand impressions. We want specifics, not participation.
  • Exceptional storyteller: can build narratives, campaigns, launches, collaborations, events, and brand moments, and can clearly articulate why people should care, why now, and why Thousand Fell

Strongly Preferred

  • Background in footwear, fashion, beauty, accessories, or design-led consumer brands — categories where culture, taste, and community matter. Taste is not optional.
  • NYC cultural fluency: actively participates in culture rather than observing it from trend reports — naturally knows emerging brands, rising creators, relevant tastemakers, fashion conversations, retail trends, and community events
  • Existing network of creators, influencers, stylists, brand founders, community leaders, PR contacts, and photographers — can pick up the phone and create opportunities immediately
  • People leadership track record: has managed direct reports or cross-functional teams, knows how to build a high-accountability, low-ego culture, and is comfortable as a player-coach before scaling headcount
