Role Description:

As a Senior Shopkeeper, you are a plant-impassioned, business-minded individual who has a desire to elevate the customer service experience in specialty retail and can work independently with strong attention to detail. You possess a real drive to grow and learn more in the areas of customer service, plant knowledge, and visual merchandising and/or lead in a specialized operations-focused role that will result in tighter in-shop efficiencies You love to meet like-minded plant enthusiasts as well as patiently teaching plant novices about all the amazing things The Sill has to offer. You are a leader on the Retail Shops Team and excited and capable of taking on specialized roles within your shop. You have a love for fast paced environments, you’re highly self-motivated and have the ability to maintain a positive, resilient attitude in the face of growth and change. You will be expected to work full time, 32+ hours/week.

Areas of Responsibility:

  • Actively contribute to meet monthly sales and customer conversion goals by navigating customer types, utilizing suggestive selling and sales tactics to drive KPIs (AOV, UPT, Conversion).
  • Deliver high-quality products and exceptional customer service to every customer, prioritizing Customer Happiness and the “Culture of Yes”
  • Liaise between customers and Customer Service when necessary, using proper company communication channels and navigating through difficult customer situations with ease.
  • Uphold The Sill’s Plant Expert Reputation, always showing a genuine interest in The Sill’s brand, its future and customers
  • Act as a community leader amongst the shop team; display a high level of understanding of the brand & mission and communicate it clearly to customers & employees.
  • Maintain a clean and orderly shop, adhering to all cleanliness and upkeep guidelines; coordinate and execute daily cleaning and visual merchandising tasks effectively and efficiently.
  • Develop expertise in various daily operational systems, training materials, and SOP’s (NetSuite, Shopify, Gmail account, phone, local delivery platforms, Asana, Slack, etc), processing transactions and responding to inter-company communication as needed
  • Exhibit expertise in operating the point of sale system, handling all transactions accurately, and navigating basic troubleshooting.
  • Understand and uphold merchandising and signage guidelines at all times, guiding all team members to do the same.
  • Work with a sense of urgency, always seeking to improve customer experience, shop cleanliness, visuals, and plant health.
  • Be the “plant expert” for the shop, building a holistic knowledge of The Sill’s product line and developing a working knowledge of all of The Sill’s plants and plant care.
  • Develop and maintain a master plant care schedule in partnership with shop management, delegating daily tasks and changing the schedule as needed.
  • Ensure the shop team is versed on all inventory handling controls and plant care practices/SOP’s. Conduct re-training in partnership with shop management as needed.
  • Follow all Visual Merchandising guidelines set forward by Retail Management and reinforced by Shop Manager.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve basic maintenance issues in relation to plumbing, electric, trash and recycling pick up, as well as other facility matters, escalating to Shop Management as needed.
  • Act as a responsible Key Holder, following all opening, closing and security procedures for The Sill Shops.

Salary Range:

$19-$21 per hour

Salary ranges for all of our positions are pre-determined on where the position is leveled within our growth path matrix. Salary ranges are reviewed during your first interview to ensure alignment.

  • 2+ years of experience in a retail, hospitality, or customer service setting
  • Mastery in the areas of Customer Service and Plant Care
  • The ability to balance priorities, multi-task and deliver on daily expectations with limited supervision
  • Superb communication with customers and teammates

Schedule Requirements:

  • You must be available on weekends and some weekdays and nights
  • You must be available to work during heavy traffic sales (ex: Sidewalk Sale)
  • Available to work during retail black out periods during holidays like Thanksgiving, Christmas, Valentine’s Day, Mother’s Day, etc.
